Few days spent in my grandparents hometown in Sicily: Petralia Soprana
Petralia Soprana is a little gem in the heart of Sicily. It is not the classic town you would expect when talking about Sicily: it is quite far from the sea and it snows in winter! The atmosphere is pretty unique: relaxed and peaceful while also energetic and lively. It is a small Medieval town located in the Madonia mountains. As you would expect there are plenty of amazing churches to see, particularly in the pictures you can see: Church of Santa Maria di Loreto, Church of Santissimo Salvatore, Church Matrice, Church delle anime purganti. The town winds in a path of intricate alley and streets where you can find people chatting, hanging the laundry or going to the bakery. The lady you see in the picture is the owner of Agliata Bakery. This was my grandparents' favourite bakery! They were going there every morning to buy bread and sometimes cookies! I was so happy to taste those cookies again! Especially the cinnamon and the honey ones. We bought tons of them and the lady was so happy that we came all our way from Rome to visit her bakery. Small things make life beautiful!! When the maze of alleys dissolves, you can also have the change to find yourself in front of breathtaking panoramas. The colours of them change during the year allowing you to experience different unique feelings every time.
